EQUIPMENT LIST

Last updated: April 2024

The Technical Rescue Challenge of the International Rescue and Emergency Care Association tests the knowledge and skills of each team to perform real life scenarios. IRECA has set the standard for World Class Technical Rescue competitions since 1948 at our annual conference and has always remained faithful to our resolve of using a minimal amount of equipment to achieve a safe and successful rescue. Each participant will receive a certificate of training upon completion of the classrooms and/or the rescue competition. In addition, each team will receive a valuable 3rd party evaluation of your rescue team's skills.

This is a 2-day challenge, having a minimum of 4 scenarios that last 45-60 minutes each.

While the equipment list has been broadened from previous years, we continue to teach and preach doing more with less while maintaining safety as the number one value of the competition.

Teams entering the challenge should be well versed in confined space and rope rescue operations. A majority of these scenarios will take place in an industrial or municipal setting. Although, we do mix rural type scenario’s when the possibility exists.

The medic’s part in treating the patient is on an Emergency Medical Responder level using the First Aid kit that is in the rescuers equipment list, plus anything supplied by the competition board.

Please reference the TR Challenge Q&A 2023 file for details on what to expect this year!
